The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2016 Gabi ng Parangal was held on December 29, 2016 at the Kia Theatre in Quezon City. The event was brodcast via television on IBC-13, simulcast results via Twitter.

With the marketing tag ‘Maraming Magandang Filipino Films’, the festival for this year revamped its standards, scrapping its ‘commerciability’ criterion and shifted towards independent and plot-centered films. Films were judged according to four (4) criterion: (a) Story, audience appeal, overall impact, (b) Cinematic attributes or technical excellence, (c) Global Appeal, and (d) Filipino sensibility.
The festival proper started with the Parade of the Stars last December 23, 2016 around the City of Manila. The films premiered on Christmas Day, December 25, and was met with critical and commercial successes.
